2003: New
Alphabet

2003: Picture
Bible Complete
The Translation Committee finished the final drafts of the Picture Bible, which will be used as a tool for teaching literacy with our new alphabet. Unlike some picture Bibles, which have a mish-mash collection of stories, this story book carries one theme throughout: "The Road of Eternal Life." It traces redemption through blood sacrifice, and finally, through Jesus. |

January 10, 2003: Ken Visits Yanemilen, where storms have destroyed Gardens and the Road
The village was expecting us, and they understand what our task is. They've adopted us into their family. However, a freak storm has destroyed the water supply, gardens, and the road into the village. But, your prayers are being answered as the road is half way done, and World Vision is working on the water supply. Plus special donations will help with community development.

| October 10, 2003:
MENDY
RECOVERS FROM APPENDECTOMY
After two days in the Yalolu village, near Madang, Papua New Guinea, Mendy had a "classic onset of appendecitis." She had a stomach ache, followed by a high fever, and then nasua and headache. At 3pm, Mendy, Ken, and Abby hiked to a spot where they could wait until 6pm for a vehicle to pass by. Two other members of SIL, "Aunt Rebecca" and "Aunt Beth" took care of Hannah and Caleb for the night. The driver took them on the one hour drive to the Madang hospital. The Polish surgeon informed Mendy that in the morning, he'd take her to the "theatre." We were pleased with the conditions, and the staff (two PNG nurses pictured left, with Mendy, post-op). Unfortunately, Ken and Mendy won't be returning to live in the Yalolu village; they do hope to visit before leaving PNG in mid-November. They'll remain in Nobnob at SIL's POC ground till then, where they continue culture and language learning. |
